This page provides information for the Wiki Administrator on how to maintain the wiki.

Organizing Pages

  • When wiki users rename pages a redirect is created. Since only DTF can delete pages the wiki maintainer has to clean-up these pages periodically.
  1. Check for Double Redirects, Redirects, and Broken Redirects
  2. Go to any redirect pages and click on "What links here" on the bottom left of the page in the "toolbox" area
  3. Modify any pages that link to the redirect page to link to the real page
  4. (Signed in as DTF) delete the redirect page
  • Check for Wanted Pages, pages that do not exist (were never created or were deleted) but links to them exist.
  1. Click on the wanted page, this will bring you to the editing page for this non-existing page
  2. Click "What links here" on the bottom left of the page in the "toolbox" area
  3. Edit the link if the page name has changed or there is a typo, contact the page maintainer if you believe the link should be removed

New pages

Most problem pages on the wiki are new pages that someone has created without following the template. As described on the HERMES Wiki Guidelines page, all pages should have:

  • a link to the page in a place where people will find it
  • a maintainer (Rebecca, Francesca, Achim, DTF)
  • a watcher (typically the same person as the maintainer)
  • a status (UNDERCONSTRUCTION, FORREVIEW, REVIEWEDOK, MainPage, FreeForAll)
  • at least one category, typically two or more:
    • Maintainer -- all pages except for MainPage and FreeForAll pages should have a maintainer
    • Status -- all pages except for MainPage and FreeForAll pages should have a status, page status categories are in all caps and include FORREVIEW, WORKINGPAGE, etc.
    • Analysis category -- while not required most pages should also be added to the appropriate analysis categories, such as Cuts, BeamsAndTarget, Transversity, etc.
  • some sort of structure, generally with the following outline: Intro, Essentials, More Info, and Code Repository


To check for these things take the following steps:

  1. Look for the Newest Pages and check that they comply with the above guidelines (this is remedy most of the issues below), edit as needed
    1. (It is sometimes helpful to see who is watching a new page to be sure it is the person you expect, that can be checked on the Watched pages list)
  2. Check for any Orphaned pages, pages that there are no links to. Add links to this page where appropriate (Analysis page, on a related page, etc.)
  3. Check for Unwatched pages, email the page maintainer or someone who has edited the page and ask them to watch the page
  4. Check for HERMES uncategorized pages (pages that are not in UNDERCONSTRUCTION, FORREVIEW, REVIEWEDNOTOK, REVIEWEDOK, WORKINGPAGE, MainPage or FreeForAll) and add the appropriate category tag at the bottom of the page

    • Note: some pages appear in multiple categories because they are split into several section which are review by different people.
  • check that new (and old) pages are in the appropriate categories, have the appropriate status, etc.
  • follow up on page construction and reviews
