About

On this page, we collect ideas for the so-called social shifts. management

List of suggested projects

Last update: 21.10.2009

Tasks assigned 11.9.2009

Filling Durham data base

Wiki

  • Next wiki master after Rebecca left. Is Francesca from July 2010 on.
  • Upload some useful figures
  • Collect DVCS + other exclusive papers on DVCS Analysis Page (theory, other experiments, ...)
  • Add missing pieces to the DVCS systematic studies and model calculations page and make it ready for general use (needs review also)
    • Suggestion: wait until we have found the best possible formulations in the currently ongoing drafts)
  • Update MC Productions page
  • Add some content to Year Dependence page

Plot shifts

  • General: make nicer plots
    • Coloring of published plots for presentations.
    • Write HERMES in figures, label curves
    • ... (Gunar, can you make a specific list please what we want)
  • If necessary update preliminary plots with new (non-HERMES) data; also valid for published plots still used in presentations
  • DVCS Glasgow
    • TTSA DVCS plots need to be improved
    • DVCS hierarchy plot (like for SDMEs) David
    • Can't we make 1 or 2 overview plots for conferences, instead of having to explain all the suppressed amplitudes all the time
  • Diagram plots (showing reaction planes for e.g. DVCS involved particles in Uli-style): remove coordinate system xyz
  • add labels to kaon multiplicity plot from the S(x) letter

Hermes data base

  • Check publication data base: did we make final papers (original version from publisher) public? (copyright issue!) Norik
  • Access to final data not possible for public -> fix, e.g., link to Durham DB
  • fix some entries where the conference tag has a hyphen (e.g., DSPIN-11)
  • Document tags Caro
    • Remove F2ratio, introduce F2: f2ratio, F2: f2fit, F2: tagged
    • Remove RECOIL (turn into EXPERIMENT: recoil)
    • Remove RICH (turn into EXPERIMENT: rich)
  • Collect and upload Recoil photographs, drawings, schematics and other useful stuff to the main Hermes webpage (upload only possible by webmaster)
linkinfo.txt ,

potentially containing for each plot one line in the format

"plot.eps This plots shows..."
  • Write pearl script to sort drafting comments by the collaborators by line number (Andy's idea). Morgan has done something already. Write little guidance wiki page (or put directly on Drafting Meetings) how to write comments to a collaboration draft to make the life of the script easier
    • Morgan. March 2010
  • Check citations of papers (e.g., are older papers cited instead of published ones? proceedings instead of paper?)
    • Main authors of papers OR convenor of subgroup if person left HERMES
  • Inventary of HERMES plots:
    • Stan HYPERONS LAMBDA LAMBDA-POL PR-PLOT RECOIL RICH SCALARMESON
    • Warshaw exclusive, vector mesons
    • Slava transverse, azimuthal,charm, BEC
    • Yoshi deltaq, unpol-pdf, g1
    • Maru DVCS
    • Dominik F2, F2RATIO
    • Sylvester hadron-attenuation, fragmentation, high-pt
    • Avetik exotics
    • Which plots need an update preliminary plots with new (non-HERMES) data? also valid for published plots still used in presentations. Make list of plots.
    • Check if all obsolete plots are really marked as such in our data base.
  • Upload non-truncated TTSA plots to webpage Caro

Helpful information for management

  • in /www-hermes/html/notes/ run "update -u pub" to be guided through the paper (drafts) submission procedure

Other

  • Maintainer of 'Slow production code after Rebecca left'
  • Recoil SSD (--> contact Andreas): tuning spacepoint cut
  • validation of hanna++ modules (make it a kind of release meeting?)
  • release report upload HTML/PERL/PYTHON/... script

Webmaster and Majordomo (management)

Last update: 19.7.2010 by CR, 15.01.2016 by GS

General

  • Add somewhere on the web a manual how to produce data files. Also, require data files together with released plots to avoid delay in the future
  • add arXiv number to be cited for released (preliminary) results to data base* Data files (even though in PUB directory) are not visible to the outside world because of cgi script adding a header
  • investigate why referee reports are in public area of publications database
  • publication data base still uses obsolete links to SPIRES and DESY citation counts
  • comments to circulations disappear from author confirmation page when paper drafts are in "in press" status -> need to adjust Naomi's scripts* On the publications page, the links to the ps-files are corrupt
  • Change labels of plots (?): not "color" and "bw" anymore, but "publication-original" and "for-presentation"
  • A factor of 10^-3 is missing in the 2 photon data files. Gunar 17.5.2010
  • Exchange the Sivers tag at all exclusive process plots with something appropiate. Gunar 17.5.2010
  • Enable "answers to referees" upload also in pdf format, Caro 20.11.2009
  • Provide for all plots also pdf version, Caro 4.11.2009
  • Enable "comments from referees" upload also in pdf format, Caro 2.11.2009
  • remove dc number from header to data files of published results. Gunar 17.5.2010

Scripts that need to run on new webserver

  • need general (HERMES) access to PLOTS and DRAFTS directories in /www-hermes/html/
  • author confirmation requires
    • access to AFS for author data base
    • www-hermes/html/notes/authors/ for repository of comments
  • conference database
    • www-hermes/html/notes/conf.in for conference data
    • runs write-conf in same directory (calling various other PERL scripts)
    • writes data in ../prot/ directory (e.g., conf-upcoming.html - but conf tags also used in documents data base (talks))
  • need to think about accessibility (direct login)

Items that need tweaking on new webserver

  • cron job to give W/R access to all HERMES members for files in PLOTS directory (might actually limit write access to owner and management) -> actually cron job sets permissions of directories already, but not of files
  • last synchronization did not remove files from hermesdp that were not on geordi/kirk (e.g. because they were removed or moved on the latter). Confuses at least some scripts (in some cases); hence create a list of such files at least to have it in hands for later inspection --> Eduard runs rsync in "dry mode" to get a list of files affected -> log file on hermesdp root directory -> can go through log file and identify double copies
  • IT: "den Webseiten auf hermesdp fehlt noch ein Impressum. Am einfachsten geht es mit einem Link (auf allen Seiten) mit dem Namen Impressum, der auf http://www.desy.de/impressum/index_ger.html zeigt. (Bzw. Imprint -> http://www.desy.de/imprint/index_eng.html)" --> Gunar will add it to first hermes.desy.de page and maybe some other public hermes pages
  • http://hermes.desy.de/cgi-bin/majord.cgi does not load (or only very slowly?)
  • could move to https; needs either changing all direct calls of http://www-hermes ... to https:// or have all http:// calls be directed to https://
  • http://www-hermes.desy.de/majord/index.html results in "You don't have permission to access /majord/index.html on this server." -> still have to decide about write access to all those files in /www-hermes/html/majord/ -> only writable by owner
  • pink browser on new hermes machines -> Charlotte adds How-To to wiki
  • (new?) password for hermes pages --> at some point have new password for all HERMES pages
  • include hermesdp in regular TSM(?) backup
  • mail does not work, but web-submission scripts don't send automatic email - likely because /tmp is not writable for w3hermes. check with IT whether we can open /tmp
  • DC87 comments to circulations have disappeared from author confirmation page -> because it has "in press" status. Should be fine when "published"

Data Preservation

HERMES Software Categories

Our software can be logically divided into three main categories:

  1. External (e.g. Adamo/Cernlib/root)
  2. Internal C/Fortran
  3. Internal C++ (e.g. Hanna++)

For the data/software preservation initiative it's important to define the level of maintenance/support for each of the categories.

The first category - external software - are by large part highly outdated, yet still supported by cern. One may expect that these fraction of the software will still run on current and future versions of Scientific Linux. Since the rest of the software depends on it, the first step of validation has to be the compilation and running of the 1. category packages.

The second category are the software used for data access, MC production, analysis, PID etc. Most of these programs/libraries are essential for a large variety of analysis and data production. The list of dependencies and priorities will be added here in a table.

The third category is only used for a limited number of analysis tasks and can be considered secondary, nevertheless it's still important and necessary to run in the validation framework, since it uses both C/Fortran libraries and ROOT/C++ simultaneously.

Minutes of Council Meetings

last update: 4.5.2010

  • The minutes of December 2009 should be modified. It was actually agreed that all students (also diploma) get one year of author ship after they left.
  • Missing on the webpage: June and September 2009. Klaus has them on his laptop.

Majordomo

  • Clean up further mailing lists to make analysis lists really analysis lists?
  • What about merging 2 or 3 of DVCS, exclusive, vm list? Especially exclusive and vm separately doesn't make sense Done 19.1.2010; exclusive-list is now main exclusive analysis + meeting announcement list, while dvcs-list is (as before) for dvcs-only related subjects and vm-list for exclusive (vector and pseudo-scalar) meson-related subjects.

General Management Projects

  • New slow control person (mail by Caro from 22 Jul 2010)

Data Preservation Task Force

Event lists are stored in /www-hermes/html/groups/mgmtgrp/AC/event_lists.

Currently available event lists:

  • DC75

List of preliminary data given out

This place should help keeping track of data, especially preliminary data, given out to the outside world. As discussed during a planning mtg. in Sping 2011, preliminary data is given out only in exceptional cases rather than all the time. Moreover, first circulation of the draft must have been finished without red bullets (or at least all such concerns must have been dealt with).

DC78

  • Harut Avakian: 2011-07-08; "update CLAS12 proposals"

List of data requests

This place should help keeping track of data requests, especially while waiting for approval by referee: [request date] (reply dates)
